Mark Williamson joined the staff of Mayor Don Plusquellic
in 1996 as the mayor's press secretary and the City of Akron director of communications.
As director of communications, Mr. Williamson is responsible for managing the release
of information from the municipal government to the media and the community. As press
secretary to the mayor, he crafts the mayors speeches, produces weekly news
conferences, manages the citys news content on its web site ( www.ci.akron.oh.us) and oversees correspondence coming from the Mayors Office.
His office also produces the Akron City Magazine
delivered to the people of Akron.
Mark assists numerous community organizations and in many community-wide activities and
events as a member of Mayor Don Plusquellics cabinet. He has also served the
city as a member of the boards of a number of non-profit and educational institutions.
An inductee of the Broadcasters Hall of Fame and the leadership fraternity Omicron
Delta Kappa at The University of Akron, Mr. Williamson spent more than 20 years in
broadcast news and management in the Akron area with Akrons former ABC affiliated
television station WAKC (TV 23). He also worked in local radio news at WAKR/WONE and WNIR.
At TV23, Mark anchored the nightly news from 1980-1996 and served as the stations
news director from 1987-1995.
A 1975 graduate of Akrons Firestone High School, Mark received his BA in
telecommunications from the University of Akron in 1980. |
