| The 2008 Holocaust Arts & Writing winners, teachers and chaperons,
enjoyed a day of sight seeing in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, May 15. The group met at
Cleveland Hopkins for an early morning flight into Baltimore/Washingtons
International Thurgood Marshall Airport. We were then transported into the city by a great
bus driver/tour guide who gave us a quick mini-tour before dropping us off at the United
States Holocaust Museum. After a somewhat emotional visit we ate lunch at the
museums café. Then, it was back on the bus for a short ride to Capitol Hill and
guided tour of another area of Washington. The young people spent time talking with
Sherrod Brown, our United States Senator from Ohio, who had just taken a break
after an important legislative vote on the 2008/2009 Farm Bill. After a brief picture
taking session, the group walked to the Supreme Court for more posing and camera clicking.
Our tour continued via bus with stops at the Lincoln Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, the Iwo
Jima Memorial and a drive by The Pentagon. After an exhausting day in the Nations Capital,
we returned to BWI for dinner and our flight back to Cleveland Hopkins and home.
