CSO Area Signs

In order to inform the public of the location of Combined Sewer Overflows, the City of Akron has placed CSO Notification Signs identifying a "CSO Area". The signs are located near the point which the combined sewer overflow outlets into a receiving stream. The signs provide a notice that this is a "CSO Area" along with a telephone number that can be used for obtaining additional information.

What does it mean to be a "CSO AREA"?

Areas posted as a "CSO Area" means the following:

  • A combined sewer overflow is located nearby and these waters may be impacted by CSOs.

  • During wet weather, untreated wastewater discharges directly or indirectly to the receiving streams along with large quantities of storm water.

  • During wet weather the following types of contaminates may be present in the receiving waters: pathogens, bacteria, oxygen-demanding pollutants, suspended solids, nutrients, toxics and floatable matter.
