The Akron Charter Review Commission

Mayor Donald Plusquellic, with the confirmation of Akron City Council, recently appointed a group of community volunteers to serve on the City of Akron’s Charter Review Commission. Pursuant to Section 142 of the Akron City Charter, a bipartisan commission is appointed every 10 years to review Akron’s charter. The Commission thoroughly reviews all sections of the Charter and makes recommendations for change, with the goal of keeping abreast of changing laws and the community and assisting City government to continue its efficient operations. The Commission will present these recommendations to Akron City Council by July 1st. Council may approve any or all of the Commission’s recommended changes. Proposed amendments approved by Council will then be submitted to the electors for approval.

How to Participate

Citizens are welcomed and encouraged to submit comments to the Commission via email by May 25th. Citizens may also attend the Charter Commission’s public hearing scheduled for May 25th at 7:00 p.m. in Akron City Council Chambers.
