James ShealeyJAMES SHEALEY

Jim Shealey, a life-long East Akron resident, attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from East High School. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from The University of Akron and is currently seeking a Master’s Degree in Theology from Anderson University, Anderson, Indiana.

Mr. Shealey was been a public servant in Akron for more 30 years. He was elected Ward 5 Councilman in 2000 and was chair of the public safety committee. Under his leadership, council approved creating a police auditor’s position, as an over-site to the police department; to both monitor and support police efforts in the City of Akron.

Councilman Shealey was a former football and track coach at Anderson University and currently teaches physical education at both Stewart Elementary in west Akron and Robinson School on Akron’s eastside.

Mr. Shealey was dedicated to his ward and to the organizations that made it strong; including serving as vice-chairman of the board directors for the East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation.

His dream was to empower the community in areas of job creation and educational opportunities. Mr. Shealey was been instrumental in helping the city, Akron Public Schools and the local building council to identify, train and qualify young men and women and prepare them to enter into union internships. His hope is that the community continues to move forward with residents working together for a common future.

Jim Shealey retired from the Akron Public Schools and left City Council in 2009.
