Harold K. StubbsHAROLD K. STUBBS

The Honorable Harold K. Stubbs, Akron Municipal Court Judge, was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and moved with his family to Akron when he was 3 years old. He was educated in the public schools system and graduated from Bucthel High School.

Judge Stubbs received degrees from Kent State University and the Howard University School of Law.

Before his appointment to Akron Municipal Court 1987, he was 4th Ward Councilman 1980 to 1983 and served as Akron’s first black Law Director. He died of cancer at the age of 48 in 1989

Judge Stubbs was a dedicated husband and father. He was passionately involved with his church, St. Paul A.M.E. Church who since his death has annually recognized individuals for there community service with an award appropriately name "The Harold K. Stubbs Humanitarian Awards." He was also an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi, NAACP and Frontiers International.

The City of Akron honored his legacy by renaming its police headquarters and municipal court building the" Harold K. Stubbs Justice Center."
