Marian T. Hall, CommunityMarian
T. Hall was born in Akron, Ohio on December 14, 1931. She attended Leggett Elementary and
graduated from Central High School.
Marian later married and had seven children. She was forced to go on welfare when she
and her husband separated. She never forgot the pain of that experience. That was the
catalyst that made Marian Hall one of Akrons greatest proponent for rights of the
poor in our community.
Marian began to organize the fight for more money and better treatment of those caught
in the welfare cycle.
She was the founder and president of the Summit County Committee for Adequate Welfare
and Welfare Rights Organization and was co-founder of the State of Ohio Welfare Rights
Organization. She sat on many boards, including the Akron Urban League, the Mayors
Human and Community Relations Commission, and was a past president of the Summit County
Human Services Committee, to name a few.
