Art MinsonART MINSON

Art Minson was a life-long resident of Akron, He was a community activist for more than half a century. He spent many hours organizing and advocating for the poor and disenfranchised in his East Akron community. He believed that he and others could make a difference through participation.

Mr. Minson was employed by The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for more than 40 years. As an official with the United Rubber Workers, his focused was higher wages for workers in Akron.

Through his church he helped organize a food pantry to serve the hungry. He also had a passion to educate people in the community and started a program to do so. He served as a board member of Ohio Citizen Action and National Peoples Action. He acted as an advisor to the Millennium Children’s Fund and was instrumental in establishing the East Akron Development Corporation.

Mr. Minson received many awards for outstanding service, including the Cliff Skeen Lifetime Achievement Award, The Citizen Action Award, and the History Makers Award.

Art Minson passed away on December 14, 2005.
