JAY WILLIAM SLOAN (JAY) started his
career with the City of Akron in 1985 as a seasonal sanitation worker. In 1986 Jay was
hired permanent in the Building Maintenance Division as a semi-skilled laborer. He
transferred to the Highway Maintenance Division in 1987 and in 1992 was promoted to an
Equipment Operator II in the Street Cleaning Division. JAY received another
promotion to Equipment Operator III in Highway Maintenance Division in 1993 and is
currently in that same position.JAY is highly skilled in the operation of all
heavy equipment in all aspects of the operation and maintenance requirements. He has
continued to demonstrate both determination and thoroughness for all of his job
assignments for the last twenty-four years with the city.
JAY and his wife, Amy have been married for 14 years. They have two children, a
daughter named Sidney who is twelve years old and a nine year old son named James. HE
has been active in his childrens sports activities and has coached baseball,
football, and basketball.
JAY has shown dedication for his career for the City of Akron for many years. He
has devoted many hours to help serve the public and ensure their safety in snow and ice
operations during snowstorms. He has spent many holidays away from his family to assist in
emergencies or the snow and ice operations that are required to provide safe and reliable
service to our citizens and to the City of Akron.
