| DOUGLAS N. BJERRE began his career
with the Akron Fire Department on June 3, 1976. He graduated from the Akron General
Medical Centers third paramedic class in May 1979 and functioned as a paramedic in
the early years of the Akron Fire Departments Emergency Medical Service. DOUG was promoted to Lieutenant April 14, 1985 and served as a
training officer working with new recruits at station 2 where he was "House
Lieutenant" for much of his career.
He served for several years as President of Local 330 and
various other positions within the union and was a key person in the establishment of a
drug screening program for the Akron Fire Department.
DOUG and his wife Vera had been happily married for
17 years and are the parents of 3 wonderful children, the youngest son is a talented
cellist. DOUG is a bicycling enthusiast who rode his bike to work daily for many
years. He is also planning a cross country trip in the near future from Akron to
California.
DOUG is an integral part of the Fire Training
Academy using the skills hes developed and passing that knowledge on to his class of
new recruits. He has worked tirelessly this past year transforming an old National Guard
facility into a new fire training academy.
DOUG is an asset to the City of Akron and a pleasure
to work with. |
