GUIDO SFERRA began his career with the
City of Akron as a seasonal worker in the Water Pollution Control plant. He was hired on a
permanent basis as a Utility Worker at the Treatment Plant (Kent). In 1996 he was promoted
to Stone Mason in the Highway Maintenance Division.GUIDOs work is
outstanding, often making suggestions that save the City time and money. He designed and
developed concrete stamping tools that enable the Highway Maintenance Division to make
repairs to brick street that were much less labor intensive. The process has saved the
City thousands of dollars in labor and materials.
The City of Akron has number D type inlets that were constantly getting hit by vehicles
which required the Highway Maintenance Division to spend time resetting the concrete
slabs. GUIDO suggested that we build our own casting to lower the D type inlets to
make them flush with the road, thus eliminating the need to continually resent the inlets.
This too, has saved us time and money.
GUIDO SFERRAs work seems to always attract admiration. The steps he built
at the Municipal Service Center, the City Incubator parking lots, and the head wall of
Cuyahoga Street are just a few of his high quality jobs. Over the winter months, Guido
remodeled the restroom in Building #1 at the Municipal Service Center.
GUIDO was born in Italy, married in Buenos Aires, Argentina and came to the
United States in 1980. HE and his wife of 37 years, Rosalia, have raised
four children and have three grandsons.
HIS versatility, attitude, dependability and outstanding work make GUIDO
SFERRA an excellent employee and very deserving of the Employee of the Month.
