GLORIA BEARD has been employed by the
City of Akron, first working in Fire Dispatch Center and then in the combined Safety
Communications Center. In 1995 when they combined the dispatch centers, GLORIA had
to learn all phases of the job related to Police. She has developed into a well-seasoned
dispatcher, one that officers and fire fighters alike can look upon for her ability to
remain calm in stressful situations.MS. BEARD has taken on other duties in
Safety Communications. She organizes the seasonal Angel Tree gift giving at Christmas time
each year. She also manages the 911 Awareness Program where technicians visit schools and
other centers teaching the public how and when to call 911 and in 2006 she made over 100
appearances presenting the program to the community.
GLORIA is actively involved in the dress down monies collected in the
Communications Center, which was used to adopt a family from the Katrina disaster as well
as assist a Florida dispatcher who lost everything to a house fire.
GLORIA is happily married to Bill and enjoys spending time with her
grandchildren.
GLORIA BEARD is an excellent employee worthy of recognition who can be looked
upon to lend her expertise and experience to help others learn the job of Safety
Communications Technician.
