KATHLEEN HELMSTEDTER (KATHY) began
her career with the City of Akron on July 17, 2000 in the Personnel Department. SHE
transferred to the Investigative Subdivision of the Police Department on May 1, 2001.KATHY
worked in the administrative area of the Detective Bureau for the next five years.
During this assignment, she was responsible for the individual requirements of the
Subdivision Commander (Major), two Assistant commanders (Captain) as well as her daily
duties. MS. HELMSTEDTERS daily duties included detail scheduling, timekeeping
and payroll. This included accounting for over 130 detectives training schedules, work
schedules, court schedules and requests by other units. Not only were all these duties
performed professionally to the highest standards, but KATHY would consistently
request more work, to assist others when her assignments were completed for the day.
SHE was transferred to the Juvenile/Auto Theft/Missing Persons Bureau on March
8, 2006. In this capacity, she was required to learn a new job involving the record
keeping and case tracking of all crimes against juveniles, auto theft, missing persons and
administration of the Juvenile diversion Program. This involved not only reporting but
dealing directly with all the outside agencies involved with offenses committed against
minors, legal requirements and restrictions, becoming an officer of the Juvenile Court and
assisting departments PIO with information releases.
KATHY enjoys various family activities with her son Eric, who attends the
University of Akron and her daughter Brand, an Ellet High School Cheerleader. She enjoys
being with her friends, exercising and attending motorcycle rallies.
