KAREN DYER began working with the City of Akron as an Engineering co-op student in September 6, 1983. She resigned on August 1996 but was re-employed as an Engineering Technician I in April 1997. She was promoted to the position of Engineering Technician II in October, 1991; Engineering Technician III in February 1993 and to her current position of Engineering Projects Coordinator in June 1995.

KAREN is responsible for overseeing construction contracts primarily on the east side of Akron. She also oversees construction at all of the City’s fire stations and the City’s wheelchair ramp program. Presently, the construction under her administration is well over $10 million dollars.

KAREN is very knowledgeable of the City of Akron’s construction and materials specifications and of the extensive documents required to administer construction projects. She is often a resource for others learning the proper procedures to do so.

KAREN is also responsible for putting together the Engineering Bureau’s Resident Project Representative Training Seminar annually, in which engineering technicians, engineers and managers from many of the divisions of the Department of Public Services attend to learn about new policies and procedures, new technologies, updates in construction materials, special construction inspection methods and resources available to city employees.

In her spare time, KAREN is very active in the Parent’s Club at Our Lady of the Elms High School and is currently its president. She volunteers at Akron General Medical center and also enjoys playing tennis.
