THOMAS SMITH started his career with the city
as a temporary co-op engineer for the Wastewater treatment plant. HE became full-time in
May, 1980 and was assigned to the newly commissioned Recycle Energy Systems Facility. In
1992, he became a Senior Engineer and in 1995, TOM came back to the wastewater plant after
the incineration of trash was discontinued at RES.TOM is an extremely dedicated city
employee who always gives a 110% effort. HE makes himself available day or night to
address high voltage electrical, mechanical, or other process anomalies at the wastewater
plant. HE is well known by area equipment and material supplies and is respected for his
vast knowledge of mechanical equipment dating back to his days spent at the Recycle Energy
Facility.
TOM is very proud of his family. HE is involved with his kids sports teams and is
a true family man. Tom enjoys working on cars and is a true troubleshooter and is not
afraid to get his hands dirty.
TOM is a walking encyclopedia and can discuss in amazing detail, almost any topic,
especially those involving something mechanical. TOM, aka "Captain Kilowatt" has
been instrumental in saving the city millions of dollars by implementing numerous
energy-saving projects at the wastewater plant. He is a recognized leader among wastewater
professionals across the state and he is an asset to our organization.
