BERTINA KING

POLICE DEPARTMENT
Investigative
Sub-Division

DETECTIVE

FEBRUARY, 2005

Bertina King

Bertina with Mayor Plusquellic

BERTINA KING began her career with the City of Akron in the Police Department in July, 1991 as a Police Officer. SHE was transferred to her current assignment in the Detective Bureau on June 2, 1997, and works in the Crimes Against Persons Unit.

DETECTIVE KING is responsible for investigating serious crimes against persons e.g. homicides, rapes, robberies and felonious assaults. BERTINA exemplifies the skill and commitment it takes to be a first class investigator. HER strongest attribute is her people skills. SHE likes people and is highly successful at talking to them – empathizing with victims, eliciting facts from witnesses and getting incriminating statements from suspects. HER interview and interrogation successes are due to a thorough knowledge and pre-planning. SHE has been assigned to handle or assist in every high-profile homicide investigated by her unit.

DETECTIVE KING is active in the community and with her church, The House of the Lord. In the past, BERTINA has coached the Buchtel High School Cheerleading Squad and today still mentors the students. In her spare time, SHE breeds and raises American Kennel Club, champion quality, English Bulldogs.

BERTINA’S record for outstanding work and her abilities as an investigator made her a valuable resource when several new programs were created her in Summit County (i.e. SANE, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner; and DOVE, Developing Options for Violent Emergencies). SHE has earned the respect of every detective, supervisor and prosecutor that she has worked with.

DETECTIVE KING is a go-to person in her Unit, the Police Department and the greater Akron Community.
