BERTINA KING began her career with the City of
Akron in the Police Department in July, 1991 as a Police Officer. SHE was transferred to
her current assignment in the Detective Bureau on June 2, 1997, and works in the Crimes
Against Persons Unit.DETECTIVE KING is responsible for investigating serious crimes
against persons e.g. homicides, rapes, robberies and felonious assaults. BERTINA
exemplifies the skill and commitment it takes to be a first class investigator. HER
strongest attribute is her people skills. SHE likes people and is highly successful at
talking to them empathizing with victims, eliciting facts from witnesses and
getting incriminating statements from suspects. HER interview and interrogation successes
are due to a thorough knowledge and pre-planning. SHE has been assigned to handle or
assist in every high-profile homicide investigated by her unit.
DETECTIVE KING is active in the community and with her church, The House of the Lord.
In the past, BERTINA has coached the Buchtel High School Cheerleading Squad and today
still mentors the students. In her spare time, SHE breeds and raises American Kennel Club,
champion quality, English Bulldogs.
BERTINAS record for outstanding work and her abilities as an investigator made
her a valuable resource when several new programs were created her in Summit County (i.e.
SANE, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner; and DOVE, Developing Options for Violent
Emergencies). SHE has earned the respect of every detective, supervisor and prosecutor
that she has worked with.
DETECTIVE KING is a go-to person in her Unit, the Police Department and the greater
Akron Community.
