2004 Outstanding Employee Recognition Program

Dawn with Mayor

DAWN EVANS

HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Health Counseling

SECRETARY 3

December, 2004

DAWN EVANS began her career with the City of Akron on November 16, 1992 as a Temporary clerk Typist in the Treasury Dept. She was made permanent and transferred to the Purchasing Division on November 17, 1993. On July 10, 1995 She was promoted to Secretary II. She was later promoted to her current position as Secretary III and transferred to Health Counseling Division on December 18, 2000.

DAWN and her husband, Clint, have been married for seventeen years. She has two step-sons, C.J. and Chris. DAWN especially enjoys being involved in her church where she is a member of the Praise & Worship Team, the Church Board and the Sunday School Superintendent. Her hobbies include golfing, bowling and shopping. She also like to spend most of her free time with her friends, family and her nieces, Tara, Shelby and Hailey and nephew, Jacob.

She has shown outstanding personal and supervisory leadership since she started working in our division four years ago. She assisted our Account Analyst in the implementation of our new software billing system. When we had staff reductions due to budget reductions, many of those duties were added to DAWN's responsibilities. She understood that those tasks were essential for the overall functioning of the division. Although she was inexperienced with the work, DAWN readily learned those duties. We could not have adjusted as well to those staff losses without her willingness to go that "extra" mile.

The most obvious service to the public which goes beyond the call of duty is DAWN’s voluntary position as Coordinator of the Mayor’s Office of Military Assistance. This effort has sent hundreds of packages to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and has assisted several military families with volunteers to help with household chores.
