TERESA SMITH

SECRETARY III

TERESA SMITH began her career with the City of Akron on October 5, 1987 as a Clerk Typist I. On January 25, 1988 she was promoted to Clerk Typist II. On October 16, 1989 TERESA was promoted to Clerk Typist III. On October 14, 1994 her title changed to her present position of Secretary III.

TERESA was married for 10 years to Jerry Smith and became a widow in 2001. She has three girls, Teran 12, Angela 10, and Rebecca 6. TERESA has two dogs, Buster and Tinkerbell. She is active in the Chapparells Baton and Drum Corporation and the Brighterside Community Church. TERESA enjoys reading, shopping, camping, hiking and raising her daughters.

TERESA prepares correspondence for the Law Director and the Deputy Director of Law, oversees the work of all the secretaries in the office, fills in for the positions as needed, keeps records for all attorneys for different courts and all the attorneys’ credits, handles correspondence with outside law firms and types briefs and other legal pleadings.

TERESA is responsible for keeping the office running efficiently and does a fantastic job. She is always cheerful even when disaster is pending. TERESA handles problems quickly and efficiently. TERESA has mastered the art of diplomacy. She is always pleasant and smiling. She is more than capable of handling emergencies that find a way to her desk.

TERESA exudes calm amid the chaos that often exists in a stressful legal environment. She is in the process of helping to design a new database that will help the division run more efficiently by keeping track of cases. She goes the extra mile by constantly coming in early and staying late or being called in on the weekends. TERESA has a positive attitude that rubs off on everyone she encounters and is a tremendous asset to the Department of Law.
